hi all, been reloading about a year, usually use CCI or Win primers but with them scarce i can find Dominion avail, not having experience with these i was hoping you guys who do could share pros/cons, compare to the others i mentioned? thanks
I use Winchester primers almost exclusively--but for no particular reason, it just worked out that way. Having said that, I bought a couple thousand Dominion primers this winter/spring from a site sponsor because the prices for primers were getting ridiculous.
I fired my first batch of handloads with them a few days ago. All 100 .40 rounds with Dominion primers functioned perfectly. One thing I found though, was that they seemed a tight fit in primer pockets when seating them.
I have loaded a few hundred, not a failure yet. Can't beat the price. I don't have anything to compare with as I just started though... I will buy more for sure.
I am fairly happy with performance, I ordered around 20K and have loaded and shot probably 7K in small pistol. I had some trouble in a tuned Glock without an extended firing pin, but then swapped it out and had no trouble since.
Only thing I can really say is out of those 7K I have seen 2 or 3 that where empty primer cups, as there was no compound or anvil. So just like any reloading component visually inspect it all before use.
Other FYI is they seem to be a few thousandths thinner than other primers or have more bevel on edges and are a little tricky to use with my vibra prime
One perk I have found with them is that the sidewall of the cup is fairly thick and if a crimped primer pocket makes it through screening it will still seat the primer and "partially swage" the primer pocket in the process. Although I do not recommend this as priming seating anvil is not mean for this.
DA primers have worked out well for me. Shot several hundred of the SP and LR, and several thousand LP. Similar to CCI in hardness and winchester in temperature. Good stuff.
I have used about 5000 SPP's from Dominion, about 50/50 in revolvers & autos. Have has failures, aka complete duds that refused to go off in about two incidences with autos. Have had in 5000 remember, about 10 that had to be struck twice with slightly reduced power mainsprings. Reduced power mainsprings that would fire Winchester SPP.
Appears to me that these Dominion primers have about the same consistently as CCI SPP. My opinion that the Dominion are on par with CCI primers but a way better price.
I have sufficient confidence with Dominion primers that I bought a whole lot more. Save about C$12.00 per thousand BEFORE tax.
