FHFH (Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry) Canada is coming to Ontario this fall!

I am pleased to announce that FHFH Canada has expanded into Ontario.

The way the program works is hunters can drop off freshly killed Deer, Moose or Elk (sorry no Bears) at a local donation centre, which is a Provincially licensed butcher shop that has agreed to participate in the program.

The animals are processed into ground meat and given to a local participating Soup Kitchen, Salvation Army or similar charitable organization and used to feed the hungry in the community of the hunters who graciously donated the animals.

FHFH Canada’s part is we raise funds to pay the butchers fees for processing the meat and coordinate finding butchers and charities feeding the hungry who are interested in working with us.

At present about 50 butcher shops spread across Ontario have agreed to participate, so most people should find a donation location without travelling too far.

If you would like to donate an animal the names and locations of the butcher shop donation centres will be posted on the FHFH Canada website prior to hunting season this fall.

Just to put this into perspective the average Deer can be used to feed 200 people, so just imagine what a Moose could do!

I believe this is a great way to showcase hunters to be the generous and compassionate people we know we are, so if you are able I would appreciate your help anyway you can.

Ways to help:
  • Tell your friends and family about the program
  • Donate a Deer, Moose or Elk
  • Donate money through the website
  • Participate in an upcoming fundraiser
  • Volunteer

We will be fundraising selling raffle tickets and other items at HuntFest in Orangeville, so please drop by say hi and buy a ticket.

If you live outside of Ontario and would like to get this going in your province, let us know.

Any suggestions, questions or if you would like to volunteer, please shoot me a PM or email to kyle@warpd.ca

I've been trying to get a Hunters Helping the Hungry program going here for a couple years now. Zero interest from the powers that be, despite a healthy moose population. :(

Absolutely great idea.

I'd suggest you contact Sun News TV. They're a certainty to get on the bandwagon and help promote and disseminate the info.

Thanks for the positive feedback, I am glad people are on board!

Great suggestion about Sun News, I have reached out to the more traditional outlets like magazines, but that is a great idea.

I am totaly behind this program, I will donate the first deer i get this year(or maybe the only one) to this program. I like venison but I am far from starving. Besides i love sticking it to the antis.

it would be nice to see those who think hunting is a barbaric pastime choke on the meat they eat for free. i am shure the leftys will figure out some way to criticize it though

Waterfowler and I have both donated venison to help feed those in need before..... I tried to start something similar before but butchers in the area were reluctant to get involved.

Good for you guys. maybe with this new program we can get a bunch of good publicity that puts hunters in the proper light, as good generous people that most of us are.

I wanted to post an update on FHFH in Ontario.

Unfortunately we fell short of the money we needed to pay the processors this year, so we will not be able to operate for the 2012 season.

Thanks to all of those who helped and supported us so far.

There is still things you can do.

Shelters are usually very happy to receive meat.

I have donated a lot of venison to the local men's shelter over the last few years.

The only stipulation here is that it has to be professionally butchered.

I did not know that Canada did this. I wonder if BC does anything similar.

Canada does not do this, but some Canadian hunters do.

Usually it is on a local scale. Talk to your local CO's, and talk to your local food bank. Typically they need the meat delivered in good shape, to a butcher that will grind and package it in an inspected facility.

Cheers

I worded it wrong but yeah.

Hunting season is underway, I'm kindly asking to donate me some of your surplus harvest.
Any type of your hunting trophy will suit me - geese, ducks, deer. I'm currently out of work and my family relay on food bank mostly. I did mandatory courses and hope next year will be able to hunt by myself. I can drive and pick up if it's not to far from 401/DVP intersection (Toronto, ON). Please reply on this post, I'm checking my e-mail frequently. Thank you.
