I am looking at building a precision rifle on one of the above actions, using a pre-chambered barrel from Mystic Precision. Are there any sources for plain actions or am I stuck with buying a new gun, removing the barrel and going from there? It will be based on a .308, what do new take off barrels sell for in general?

Thanks,
Mark

Ellwood Epps has them. I think they are around $500 and something for the standard action but you get an accutrigger. If you gonna upgrade the trigger anyway then personally I think a Stevens is the most cost effective and you can sell the barrel and stock.

If you get a 243 I will buy the barrel from you. :)

Edit: I know you know this but a 243 is the same bolt face as the 308 and did I mention I will buy the barrel from you.

Well, considering I can buy the whole Stevens for well under that, it doesn't seem like a great choice.

PM sent on the barrel issue.

Soon, but I cannot tell exactly when, I'll have an almost new Win 243 cal barrel taken off from my Rem 700VLS gun. If you are interested, PM me.

Hi Kazimier,
thanks for the offer but I'm interested in a savage screw on barrel.

BTW, I may have a story for you about my .243 7600 not stabalizing those Amax bullets at -20 centrigrade. I'l let you know when I figure it out.

Stevens if you are going to 'gut' everything.

Savage if you want a heavier trigger and a det mag.

If there is a factory Savage with a stock and layout you like, BUY it. Stocks can be a pain to get.
