dont know a better place to post, but very interesting!

I've read this story as an assigned topic on military leadership courses. One of the few kernals I remember was how he allowed every sailor to have his birthday off, even at sea. There was a special spot for men 'On Vacation' where they weren't to be disturbed for one whole day. Reminds every leader to establish little courtesies that don't cost anything, but give everyone the chance to feel special.
 
Equally the Captain of the Graf Spee was well regarded by the British merchant Captains he captured. They even attended his funeral and laid a wreath!
