... And why I finally went out and applied for my PAL.
As you can see, I live in Onterrible (or Bantario as I've seen it called here several times), and I've been a member of this site since 2008. But I've only just now applied for my PAL.
I was in the Army Reserves, and as a semi-irresponsible 18 year old I was allowed to handle, and use, firearms that'd get me locked up for even owning them now, as a responsible 33 year old.
I'm semi-familiar with firearms, and wanted to own and shoot some of my own. But I kept putting off taking the CFSC/CRFSC and applying for my PAL. Next month. Next year, when I "have the money for some decent guns"... and on, and on.
One day I woke up and turned on my iPhone. Started the Globe & Mail app*, and I saw the article that made me make the phone call that day and sign up for the next available CFSC/CRFSC at my local range.
Don't remember which article it was. Could have been this one, or this one.
But it scared the bejesus crap out of me. Would I never be able to own a .22LR plinker? Would I never be able to own a bolt action deer gun? And forget about owning a "black rifle" or a pistol/revolver. I was doomed by my perpetual procrastination.
Then there was the budget flap and the threatened fall election. I thought for sure I'd never see the inside of a shooting range other than the one at the West Edmonton Mall.
So I took the courses, got my signatures, picture and money order together, and now my application is sitting on a desk (or more likely in a drawer) in Miramichi... And I can sleep at night, with visions of 9mm's and fighting for firearms owners' rights dancing in my head.
I know I'm not the only person that
panicked
when those articles came out... But I wonder how many people actually pulled the trigger on getting their PAL when the Fiberal/Dipper merger rumours started.
(*That's how I start every day. Guaranteed to be at least one article in there to get the blood rushing.)
