Don't you think 410 ammo is a bit too expensive?

The new Lazer Arms revolver 410 shotgun got my interest but once checked out the price of the ammo it instantly turned me off. They are almost 2X the price of any of the 12Ga ammo I got. I guess is a supply and demand issue .... Does reload get cheaper? I wonder if it is even easy enough to setup reloading for this caliber. I can kinda reload 12Ga with a electric drill and a roll crimp attachment... not sure how 410 can be done the same way.

.410 is economical... If you reload ;)

Retail, the cost of the ammo is off the hook.

Fireform .303 brass into brass shotshells, and reload it indefinitely. For birdshot loads, it costs me less to shoot than .22lr now.

Do you use a gas check or some card or something else over the end to contain the shot? Do you use a shell cup wadding or?

I’ve made shotshell loads with 45 colt brass but not 303

I use a 1/2 ounce of 7 1/2 shot in a shot cup with a over shot card cut from a cereal box, then sealed with candle wax for my 303 brass conversions. Not a lot of shot but kills bunnies at bush hunting ranges.

That’s awesome!
My gf and kids love my little .410 but cheapest shells I could find are about $11/25

You fireform the brass like COW method??

Cool. I don’t use 410 much but it’s always fun to play around. What powder are you using ?

Cool! But looks like a bit of work to convert the brass. Is it easier to cut the 303 around the mark of the neck narrows down? If the brass is slightly shorter than the 410 it should still be fine right? Ok it is any option... I don't actually do reloading but I do use some equipment to make dummy rounds. Looks like reloading is the way to go...

.303 works out really well once fireformed. The length is just slightly over 2.5" - which is the length of a 2&3/4" shell before the crimp expands out, so you end up with the same case volume.

I use cups now, but they aren't necessary (just easier). A couple of 1/2" square cut pieces of cotton cleaning wad, tamped over the powder charge, followed by shot, provides enough of a seal to create the needed pressures.

For the "card" I just stuff a bit of cotton ball at the top (one cotton ball will do for between 4-6 shells), and then drizzle some Elmer's glue into the cotton to seal it. Elmer's works because it isn't too strong of a glue (I tried Gorilla Glue once and... Just don't...), and it's thin enough to get "soaked up" by the cotton to create a rubbery seal at the top once dried.

410 ammo is a somewhat more costly than other shotgun ammo but I love my 410 for grouse. Never overkill....! Years of hunting grouse with a 410, I have seldom shot a bird that wasn't platter perfect--or pretty near to being...Nothing worse than a bird that's blasted too bits! Reloading your own can save you money but I find I don't mind paying for the ammo because it's my favourite gun for ruffies....

I use lil gun powder for .410. I also get my shot from cheap 12g target loads. I also make up shot mixtures for S&G's. A little #6 with the rest 7 1/2 or a couple BBs with some #8 shot on top. I also salvage the shotshell primers from the 12g shells.

I agree!
I use the 410 for grouse as well and it works perfect for that purpose. I only go through a couple boxes of ammo a year so the extra cost isn't really a big concern for me.
