Alright,

lets take a trip down to supposeville.

Suppose I needed to breach a door, what advantages do door breacher chokes provide? Or are they just for looks?

Advantages:

"Toothy" front helps to secure the end of the barrel against the door, to prevent it from sliding around. Helps to make sure you're going to hit the part of the door/lock mechanism effectively.

The porting allows for gas to vent as the shot hits the door, and prevents too much back pressure, which could happen, in theory, if you held the muzzle absolutely flush with the door.

Put together, this allows you to put the muzzle directly against the door for efeective breaching, and acts as a bit of safety, reducing the amount/likelyhood of shot bouncing back on the shooter.

For a normal shotgun, you should keep the muzzle a few inches away from the surface of the door, to prevent back-pressure issues. But this does create a chance of shot bouncing off the surface of the door and coming back on the shooter.

For normal shooting, there is no advantage to a breacher choke. No particular disadvantage over cylinder bore either.
