We went up to a friends place (his is known as bigr) he is located about 40 mins north west of Sudbury... We left saturday morning around 10 am hoping to fill out 2 bear tags by the end of the weekend and with Rays great help, we filled them up by 4:30 sunday afternoon....
We both went out sat night, Oleg my buddy say a huge sow with cubs come into his bait, I did not see anything sat night... The next morning Ray put me on another stand, Ray wanted me to sit until 10 am but I opted out at 9:15 or so... I was getting rustless and needed to go to the bathroom really bad, so I called Ray and asked him to come and pick me up so we can go for breakfast... He said okay, I new it would take him about 20-25 mins or so to get to me...I climbed down my stand went to take care of natures call... Figured he should be coming very soon, so I walk over to view my bait and as I am waiting for Ray to arrive, as I am standing there very still for 10 mins or so when all of a sudden I notice movement, its a friggin bear sneaking around about 35-40 yds out through the dense bush, I see him but its to dense, I don't have a shot, I move/sneek toward him (5 yds or so closer) to get into a position for a shot, he walks into a small opening and bang.... 9:30 1st bear down... Ray shows up 1 minute later, what luck....Timing is everything..
We load the bear, go see Oleg my buddy which is on another stand just to tell him the news and move him to a different bait site, Oleg is a true outdoorsman, he wanted to spend the entire day walking, hunting trails, looking for sign etc... We showed him the new stand location, he decided he wanted to go for a 4-5 hour walk and return back to the stand by 4:00pm...We wished him luck and left to clean my bear...
We just finished cleaning the bear, washing down the garage, washing down the truck, finished eating something, getting ready to rest a little and the phone rings, its Oleg, he just shot his bear after being on stand for only 15 mins... He went for his walkabout, 5hr walk and returned to his stand as he said he would at 4:00pm. The bear showed up at 4:15 pm... what luck... 2 bears taken at what some people would think being the least productive times...
On a side note, when I was cleaning my 125 lb bear, we found a complete broadhead intact under his skin driven into his spine... It was completed healed over, shot at last year? Very weird.... Enjoy the pics....
Olegs bear
Olegs bear in Ray's garage
My bear in the field
My bear at Ray's place
The arrow head in the spine but it was embedded completely so I pulled it out a bit for the picture...
Look at the size of this.... hard to beleive it did not break its back, poor bear.....
Thanks to bigr for making our trip happen, you the man
