Double Duty (9mm and .40) Beretta 92?

Hi All,

During my ATT course there was a Beretta pistol there that could change between 9mm and .40 cal very quickly, it looked like the whole slide assembly came off and a new slide went on.

Anyone know what kind of Beretta this might have been? Does the 92 have a similar setup?

Im not familiar with the Berettas, but you can do this with the SIG 226s. All you do is swap complete slide assembly/ barrel and mag and your shootin` another cal.

I change between 9mm/40cal

Yes, you can swap slides from 9mm to .40 with any Beretta

you should be able to do that with other guns as well, it'll just take a little longer

The frames for the 92 and the 96 are the same.

Just drop on a new top end and you're good to go.

Stainless Steel

OK, my dream 92 is the Stainless Steel model to match my 870 Marine Magnum. But the finishes are throwing me off. Are there different finishes for this gun or are these differences just the camera catching the light at different angles?

the top one is 92FS INOX (stainless slide, alloy frame) - discontinued model!

the bottom one is STEEL 1 - limited edition ($$) with a polished stainless steel frame and slide.

technically No, but I heard you can squeeze more than 10 9mm rounds in a .40 magazine....but you didn’t hear this from me

you can only swap the 9mm onto a .40 frame, as the ramp cuts on the 9mm are smaller than the .40, or at least were, I've heard they might all be the same now.

That was changed many years ago, and I got this from the factory when I was there a year and a half ago.

They saved 1 operation that reduced their inventory by cuting the feed ramp to .40 cal spec.

yeah I thought I remembered something about that, but wasn't sure. So there you go, you can swap either way.
as for mags, new .40 mags will hold 9mm rounds (more than 10 as noted above), but typically once they've been used for awhile the lips spread enough to allow the 9mm to sproing out during shooting. so you might need to squeeze them together again to make them work right.
