Im wondering if anyone has any experience with the treaded and chamberd douglass barrels from sharpshootersupply.com ?

Im thinking of just getting one in .308 winchester again, but in 22" instead of my 26 tube on my savage now. I would like it to be a bit more handy for in/out of vehicles, a slight bit lighter for quicker handeling during hunting. Should I look at different calibers as options? im going to be shooting deer, coyote, posibly bigger game later so thats why I wanted to stick with .308 vs say 260rem. I think I will stick with .308 for simplicity sakes, I already have a bunch of brass, bullets, collet dies ect ect.

Maybe I should spring for a custom canadian made barrel?

No offence but my veiew is if you can't get it done with a standard cartrige that you should give up hunting. With the high veloicty magnums, you need thicker tougher bullets so they don't grenade... so there realy isn't much of a point! and Im not going to shoot at game past 500yards, and probably 300yards would be the max I would need to shoot at.

If Im ever going to buy a magunum, its going to be a medium bore medium velocity like the .375, now there is something that is worth the magnum charge of powder you put in it.

Douglas Barrels are a very well built barrel if you are looking to import the barrel from the US you must get a US State Dept export permit or you could go thru Questar

Jump into new century go with a 7mmwsm or 300wsm
LOL I often wonder about these new and improved cartridges that manufacturers come out with if they do anything better that the old cartridges.:bangHead: I know they even have less velocity than the 7mm mag and 300 win mag had LOL

I've had good luck with douglas barrels and they are good people to deal with, note that they are button rifled and for my purposes(cast bullets only) the cut rifled barrels of Badger, Gr. Mtn. are my preference.

SSS savage barrel

I have one on my 110 FLP. It is my 4th barrel on.

Had it in .300 Win Mag then bought two additional barrels in .300 again and finally ordered a few years ago a 6.5X55 SM. 27 in. from SSS.
Today, it is more complicated I know.
I like it very much and the savage system is quite user friendly and enables anybody to change barrel, bolt head and fix headspace in a nutshell with a few basic tools (check their web site).

This old caliber properly loaded is very close to 6.5X 284 when the latter is loaded to normal pressure to extend barrel life somewhat.

Throating is part of the answer as the old 6.5 is throated for the long classic 160 RN bullet.
