Went dove hunting for the first time in the crown land. Walking around was difficult because none of the trails were cut yet. Got some, even though it was raining. Let me tell ya those little fellas are delisshhhh

We came out the red the blue waiting for us though, someone had a noise complaint. It was all good though, decent guys.

The 3 of us are thinking we should go back out tomorrow to show we aren't going to be scared off. All of us are legal hunters/firearms owners. We want to be able to use the land as much as possible.

Open already? I thought doves didn't open there until the end of the month with the rest of the migratory birds. I'll have to check the regs again and let a friend know.

EDIT: ah yes, I mixed up the two sections in the regs. It just opened for you lucky dogs. I won't be waterfowl hunting down in my old haunts until the end of the month and usually see none when we are there.

Doves are great eating. I picked up a four pack of decoys at bass pro for 25$ or something. I've heard stringing them on a rope across a clearing or fence line will bring them in steady. Haven't had the chance to test them out yet. Good job on the hunt.

I must've shot 150 one afternoon in Zimbabwe, what a riot and some very good fast shooting. A couple times I was afraid the solder on my SXS might melt...........We never counted them but between my PH and myself we probably had literally 250-300 birds, unfortunately the black trackers (bird fetchers) got them to eat and we never did try them. Sure had a riot knocking them down though........always trying for the double, as they seemed to come mostly in pairs..........fond memories.........

Dove and pigeon hunting is probably the best wingshooting you can do. The speed at which the birds fly at and the acrobatics they can display when getting shot at is nothing short of challenging. I've been hunting pigeons for as long as I can remember, and more recently doves with the new seasons, and can say that both species will decoy better then any waterfowl. If you can add a mojo in he mix, even better as the birds will continue to keep flying in. And yes, delicious is what they are. No matter how you cook them, they are one tasty bird! I cant say how many times i've said that a slow day of pigeon/dove hunting is better then a good day of duck hunting. And a bonus with pigeons is that there is no set season as the birds can be hunted all year round. For you waterfowlers out there that dont know what to do with yourself after the season ends...well find some pigeon fields and set up your mojo teal decoys and blast away!!

The southern region season in Ontario runs from early September to mid November...and...I just realized you were referring to pigeons as opposed to mourning doves...pigeons (rock doves) eh...?

Dove season opened on September 10th in southern Ontario. With goose opening on the same day, I havent made it out for doves yet this year. However, I do carry steel dove loads with me when hunting goose just in case doves are flying around the lake as well. I havent seen any doves flying over the lake this year, but I was able to bag a handfull of doves last year during early goose season. I dont mind taking advantage of an opportunity to shoot at a dove if the situation arises.....especially if the waterfowl arent flying.

A few of us are just loving it. Doesn't take long to set up just go out to the field and walk around. We should get a mojo decoy just to make em come to us a little better but we have decent luck just sitting smoking a few cigars while waiting. Makes all those days at the skeet range worth it

I'm loving dove season. Since it started a few years back it's quickly become my favourite game bird. I built a dove pole using an extendable pole from Rona and I put a few decoys and a mojo on top and boy does it pull them in. Only been out twice this year but while everyone else is duck hunting this weekend I'll be dove hunting. No boat or dog required :)
