Purchased a set of Burris Standard Dovetail Rings along with two piece Burris universal base.

I cannot for the life of me get the dovetail scope ring to twist into the universal dovetail base.....I have tried a wooden dowel and pliers!

How tight are these supposed to fit?

Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to file or grind some of the dovetail slightly....?

I never imagined it being this difficult.

Please advise
Thank You

I'm going to assume that the ring dovetail is matched for the base that you are trying to put it on? I checked Burris and this is what I found with one set-
Double dovetail rings must be used with double dovetail bases.
Another assumption?
Try putting a little grease on the dovetail before you put it in the base. Using a dowel or solid piece of stock, turn that "puppy" 360' several times, and when it loosens up, remove the ring and degrease both parts. Mount the base in a padded vise to do this, not on the rifle. The ring should move slightly to allow the scope to be centred in the ring without putting pressure on the tube.

If everything is A-OK in the first place, a moderate amount of effort with one hand is all it takes to turn the dovetail ring firmly into the base. I use a plastic "wrench" Leupold makes for their rings, ( also fits Burris, Weaver Millett, etc.) but a piece of foot long 1" hardwood dowel works well.

If you're struggling, something's wrong.
