I recently bought a .22 Ross 1912 Cadet military training rifle. I looks to be in good condition to me and was complete except for a rear sight that was missing/ now replaced. Both the barrel and receiver are stamped DP. We're they marked because they are not safe to shoot?

I have a Cadet I bought on the EE. It shoots quite well at 25Yds and my grandchildren can handle it fine with .22 shorts. Unless you can see some reason why yours would be unsafe to shoot like a bulged barrel or faulty lock-up of the action, it could have been made DP just because it wasn't needed for target shooting any more after changing over to Lee Enfield .22s. Fasten it to an old tire and pull the trigger with a string. Go from there depending on results.

I suspect the Ross 22's were DP'd for the same reason the center fire Rifles were... simply because they weren't supported with parts within the system anymore.

I agree with both replies. Neat little rifles, but fragile. I've had several and still own a full stocked military one and a factory commercial sporter. Bores are often bad from corrosive ammo, but still may shoot ok. I recommend you use standard velocity ammo only.

The person I bought from said he shot it. I do not see any reason not to so it will go to the range this weekend to test and sight in. Thanks for the replies.
