I am looking for 4 or 5 round dpms mags. Not 20 round pinned to 5 but the smaller 4-5 round mags. Does anyone know of any place that has them in stock?

LOL well have the 1 but would a couple more. I havent checked the dealers around here but pretty much know the answer already. Need to talk to some of the US boys that garbage the 4 rounder and use 19 rounders instead.

I bought an ar10 mag, based on the m14's and believe it or not it works. you have to be a little more careful inserting it, but so far, so good. I'm going to work on another m14 mag and try it as well.

Why do you have to be more careful with it? Is it bigger? Have any pics of the 2 be any chance, like a side by side?

I was playing around with the idea of using M14 mags too, but it turned into a pain.

The M14 mags will fit the mag well, and if you cut a notch for the mag catch, in the right spot, they will feed.

The problem is the follower/bolt catch. The M14 bolt catch contacts the follower roughly where the rim of the case sits on back of the follower, hence why it has a "rasied" portion a the back of the follower:

Where the latch is on the M14 mag (square metal box on back) is where the bolt catch on an AR contacts.

You could use a lightly modified M14 mag in a DPMS rifle, but when the last round is fired the bolt will lock back against the mag follower, not the bolt catch. Without some major surgery it won't work as it was designed to.

The mags for the Armalite AR-10 are M-14 mags that are already modified. I'll give them a try in my DPMS tonight. Also to keep in mind, there are different generations of AR-10 mags. The new ones are G3. I've seen a G1 version and they are a bit different (also not as nice).

Nope it doesn't work.

I tried my G3 AR-10 mags in the DPMS LR-308. The mags won't fit. They are slightly longer than the magwell and the DPMS mags in terms of bullet length (IE not too tall to fit).

I tried the DPMS mag in the Armalite AR-10. Again nope. The DPMS mags are too wide and won't fit in the magwell.

Maybe Generation 1 or 2 AR-10 mags will work but not the third Generation ones.

mine must be a gen 2. It was a few years old. I'll post some pictures , but not tonight. (wifes making dog biscuits and it's her camera and I'm not going to f**k with loading s**t wilst half gunned. What I meant by fiddling with it was, you have to jiggle it(just a little bit) to get it to seat. It has a plastic follower as well as a plastic articulating tit at the back, if that helps.

Sounds good.
The latest generation has a metal follower and the mags are too long in terms of bullet length to fit into the magwell of the DPMS. I would have had to use a hammer to force it in (Not going to happen).

I was at P+D today picking up some stuff, walking around the store trying to remember what else it was I was supposed to look into. Yep totally forgot to ask about additional mags dammit!!
