Assuming I got one of those imported by Questar, would they be classified as restricted or non-restricted ? 10 round mags, blowback operation like an unrestricted Remington 597. I'm assuming it'll be the former because it looks scary ?

I have a DPMS AP4 upper with fre float tube and in terms of accuracy they do not shoot as well as the R22. Several years back they came with an outstanding barrel and people were getting .5" groups at 50yds as per threads on AR15.com. Since then something has happened with the barrel quality. I had purchased a 20" Hbar CMP upper to match my Colt Sporter Hbar. I had to returned it for re-barrelling beacause it would not group under 2" at 50yds and after several barels replacements and test benching it, they could not find anything in their inventory that would shoot under an inch. They did manage to replace it with the AP4 which had , I guess, an older barrel and shot well but I had to return it just recently for a new barrel as something let go inside the barrel nut and the barrel was loose. At we speak, they are trying different barrels to get it under an inch but as of last week, still no luck. Its been six weeeks so far.

They do cycle well and will shoot most makes of .22 LR. The fit and finish is very good although the colour match was a little darker than the Colt lower. They come with a ten round mag but no manual or any docuementation for that matter, however bolt breakdown and cleaning is not that big of a deal. They do get very dirty and have to be cleaned regularily. It is also not uncommon to break a firing pin as I have done. You may want to order an extra firing pin at the same time.

If you are looking at the entire rifle, they are restricted but if you have an AR15 lower already then you just need the upper as I have and it is not restrcited since it is only a barrel assmebly and is not considered a gun (hence, gun parts). But when you stick it on a lower, that of course, changes it from an un-gun to a restricted gun.

If you buy one, make sure you get some assurances as to its accuracy and what options you have if it shoots like ####.

The problem with 5.56 is paying like 14$ for 20 rounds... that's just retarded if you're looking to have a fun day at the range. Hell, even the 9mm and .40 cal is prohibitively expensive for the lowly college student looking to fire a lot of ammo downrange. :(

Is the accuracy on those barrels THAT BAD ? From this guy's tests, you would think it's a good rifle: http://www.gunblast.com/DPMS22.htm

Oh well, back to exploring the options... :p

It's still a AR, so it would be restricted.

That's what I'm thinking as well, but does the CFC know what a "Panther AP4 semi-automatic .22LR rifle" is ? If they do, oh well... :(

Like I said, a few years back (maybe two years) they were just like in the gun test you linked too. 5/8" at 50 yds with Dyna Points was the standard. Thats why I bought one. But I'm making DPMS live up to that standard and they are having a hard time of it. Its been six weeks now and I don't know how many barrels they've tried. But I'll be damned if I'm going to pay that kind of money for a plinker and they did originally say their .22's would do at least 1" at 50 but they have never put that in print unlike Fulton Armory who states what kind of accuracy to expect.

BTW, it is a really fun gun to shoot. Makes owning an AR15 something really special. You can trick out your .223 with all sorts of goodies that can also go on your .22 depending on what mood your in that day and And AND shoot all day for peanuts. Makes your heart all warm and fuzzy don't it.

With regards to the CFC, its just another AR15 but in .22LR. Nothing special about it.

It's a AR variant so it doesn't matter what it's called, hell you could call it the AP4 cuddly bunny gun and it still would be restricted.

P.S. Dude if your paying 14$ for 556 you need to find a new gun shop because your getting ripped off.

Oh, I'm not buying 5.56 at the moment, just looking at the prices in a few places. Makes my heart skip a little... :(

What should I expect to pay for a box of 20 ?

$5 or $6 here at Wholesale Sports IIRC (and that is for 223 AE or WWB , not milsurp 5.56).

Ah, I see. So in reality, 50 rounds costs almost the same as a box of 9mm/.45 ? That's a little more encouraging!

yes, at least here in BC, .223 is quite comparable to 9mm in terms of price....

MrAR sorry to hear about your problems, i had a DPMS upper from several years ago... and it shot like a champ, i regularly shoot clay pigeons set on the 75m berm when i had the upper...
