DPMS heavy barrel upper ??

I am considering buying a used AR.
The rifle is from an estate so I have zero history on it.

It is an Armalite AR15 lower with an aftermarket match trigger, a full M16 style buttstock.
The upper is a DPMS very heavy barrel ( aprox .75in staright no taper to the end of the full length M16 style handguard) and is 16in long where it tapers down to regular diameter threaded for flash suppressor.

The barrel looks good bore wise visually. The bolt and action appear low rd and in exc condition.

Anyone know anything about these uppers/barrels and how they shoot/perform?

I plan to scope it with a Vortex 2-10x tactical scope and play with it as a sniper.

Price check and opinions of this rifle setup...realizing there are no pics or detailed info.

Well I bought it.

I haven't shot it yet.

What is the best approach to mounting the scope ??
I am going to use my Vortex 4-12 BDC 1in scope.

Is an offset forward one piece mount required or can I use high tactical rings on a raised base or on their own?
I don't plan to re/re the scope so don't need QD feature.
As such I don't plan to use iron sites either...this is going to be a DMR setup.

The rifle has a A2 front site/gas block now. Can I leave it there and look through it or should I swap it out for a low profile gas block?
