And why oh why didn't I get one of these long ago???

Finally got to the range with the DPMS Oracle I bought from Cabela's in late November ($599 before taxes). This is the first AR I've owned, or held, or fired- and I'm a convert.

Almost NO recoil, yet it's not a wimpy round at all. The rifle weighs next to nothing compared to the .303's and .308's I'm used to.

So here it is wearing new Magpul furniture, with the original DMPS stuff taken off, for comparison:

The original butt was not only kinda ugly, it has the wrong slope to the butt plate- not comfortable at all, and I wanted it gone.

Next up, the pistol grip:

It's funny- the original grip was really irritating: that finger bump just forced my hand into an uncomfortable position, yet I have the same grip on my M305, and it's not as annoying. The MOE grip is slightly fatter, but feels much better. I can "choke up" on it and it just stops being something I notice.

Handguard: the DPMS handguard is called the "Glacier Grip", and it actually wasn't all that bad. I'd been concerned because pictures of it (before I bought) showed it from the side, where it's tallest, it didn't show that from side to side, it isn't that thick. I'd been thinking it looked too fat to be comfortable, but it really was ok.

However, I ordered the new handguard mostly for looks (those side vents reminded me of the FN) and was quite happily surprised when it turned out to be much more comfortable as well as better looking.

Lastly, the Holosun:

The Oracle comes with no sights at all. The Holosun HS406A red dot is 2MOA, and it's definitely an improvement over the Bushnell TR-25 (3MOA) that I have on my M305. Shake awake, turns itself off after 10 minutes of no movement. I'm still new to red dots, but this feels very solid, and looks great too.

Finally, I won't bore you with target pics, but I was getting anywhere from 2 to 4 MOA today at 100 yds, and I have little doubt that a small scope would improve on that. I may try that down the road.

What a wonderful little rifle this is. I would very much recommend it to new shooters, or smaller statured shooters such as myself or for women. I'm just grinning from ear to ear.

Ive had a DPMS for years now and never had an issue with it at all other than some cheap Chinese ammo I fed it. It’s got some aftermarket stuff but the thing I like most is the trigger. I can’t remember what manufacturer made it but it’s fantastic and made a huge difference over the stock unit.

Very cool and congrats! One of our shooting buds just got his first AR a couple of days ago,,a DPMS! I'm sure he will enjoy it as much as you are enjoying yours, nice rifle for the money. I like the upgrades you have done so far

When you get a scope on it, you will see your groups improve. I had one and it always ran and produced nice 1 moa groups at 100 with Federal AE 55 gr off the bench. Put the Mini 14 to shame for almost half the price.

Yeah, the stock trigger is not great. Heavy and single stage. I'd prefer a lighter 2 stage, but I'm not in a hurry to replace it just yet. Maybe it'll wear in, maybe I'll get used to it.
