Was looking to get into the AR-15 platform, but with a limited budget and not wanted to get a Norinco, I was looking at the DPMS Oracles.

Anyone have experience with these?

Looking to pick it up after Christmas :)

Would it be better to just pick up a cheap lower and a higher grade upper?

I've seen a lot of people complain that the barrels are not threaded, and see some retailers sell the rifle with no flash suppressor on the end (which means not threaded) but then there are some with a flash supressor, is it welded on? Or are these threaded barrels?

I really like this Rifle.
It has it all and for under $900.
(Non-Threaded versions would be for California, all dealers here in Canada have threaded))

A cheap lower would be about $400. A higher end upper $900 -$1000. Even over $2000.

If just getting into the fun and sporting excellence of this Semi-auto platform I would go with the DPMS.

You would have money left over for a sights, a nice optic and ammo.

Those 3 things will help you enjoy the rifle and make you a proficient shooter.

I think I might get one too.




p.s That one even comes with a $120 PMAG :stirthepot2:
 
I managed to shoot a fellow cgn members Oracle, both the .223 and the DPMS .22 upper and was very impressed. Shot very well with either upper, semi bull barrell on the .22 with a round handguard was very accurate with bulk ammo.

Since I don't make my living with my rifle I think I would seriously consider the DPMS as a great value range toy over some of the high priced names. Plenty of $$$ left over to feed it.
 
I have shot one that did not have a bird cage on the end (barrel wasn't threaded) it shot well enough. The trigger felt much better than my norc.
 
Hmm thanks for the input! I already have a Lucid HD7 with a magnifier that I'm probably going to mount for now. But I think this would be a significant upgrade over a Norc amirite?

Don't wait too long to buy a DPMS Oracle as we (and most other dealers) are almost sold out. The last shipment was several months ago and with all the hysteria in the USA ,there may not be any more for quite some time. Phil.

If you read most of the threads by owners of Norinco AR's, they absolutely love them. The triggers apparently get better after several hundred rounds, but even so, if you bought one of them for $700 and bought a high end match trigger for another $100, you're still $100 cheaper than the DPMS. For plinking on a budget, the Norinco is a good choice, then you can buy or build a higher end rifle later if you choose.
 
As for 'most other dealers' being sold out. Someone made a post about a dealer having a dozen of them and I know another with almost as many locally.
Another dealer has the DD SSP in stock as well. Maybe Ontario is well stocked :)

True, when they sell they most likely won;t show up for sometime again. But to add to the growing uneasiness of supply....not necessary
 
I have one without the flash hider and I love it.
It's my only AR but it shoots good and even though I'm no expert, the trigger feels fine.

I'd recommend it for sure, the finish is real nice, colours match perfectly and there's hardly any play between the upper and lower.
 
I quite like the M&P Sport I just got. No forward assist or dust cover but, many say those aren't terribly necessary anyway. Not sure if any are left that were imported. It isn't milspec but neither is a dpms...

Well maybe not "high end match grade" but you can get a very nice drop in trigger kit with JP springs from Brimstone Gunsmithing for $90 and they ship to Canada. They have a very good YouTube video that details the installation. I just put one in my S&W M&P 15-22

Since our range day CT, I've changed the pistol grip and butt stock, both Fab Defense. The only complaint I had/have is the OEM butt stock is the most uncomfortable piece of plastic that I have ever put to my shoulder.
