Dragunov in Canada ???

I'm very interrested in getting a Dragunov SVD, but after my gs told me that I couldn't get one in Canada, I just gave up. I was just wondering if somebody by any chance would have one or could tell me how to get one. Any suggestions welcome.

PS: Also looking for an original Russian SKS, (Since I was born in Russia, I got some interest in my backround's guns):)

Hi Alex if you do not have a 12-5 classification forget about owning a Dragunov type rifle. As far as a Russian SKS, wait my friend. I've been trying to find a decent one since last year. Some folks have waited 3 years for one.

PS: Your post should be under main battle rifles and not under pistols and revolvers

For a second, I thought this is the "Pistols and Revolvers" thread... Oh well, we'll let the moderators sort it out.:D

I called CFC about to years ago to inquire as to why the SVD is considered as a prohib. My call was tranfered to their supervisors and then to some verifiers. They were actually curteous enough to call me back; after doing some research on this rifle, even the weapons tech at CFC had no clue as to why the Dragunov is Prohib; not a version of the AK, designed to function as a semi auto, fires a large rifle cartridge not designed for a submachine gun/assault rifle; nothing in common with any of the "usual" prohibs. In my humble opinion is that some idiotic office clerk somewhere at CFC misjudgend/misstudied the rifle and in a couple minutes decided the fate of this rifle.
I am not sure how this can be done, but there must be a way to reclassify a firearm, the same way it was done with the Valmet Hunter and 78. I bet this reguires a ####load of money, smart lawyers and other resources(and maybe some reasoning from CFC).

I was just kidding. We will never see logic with these people.

I can own a semi auto M2HB Browning 50 cal with a tombstone drum full of nice big shiny rounds at 10 bucks a pop but I cant own a .22 cal single action Derringer.

I would love to get a Dragunov also, but since they are prohib, you can make a quasi Dragunov:) using an SKS and a Dragunov stock from Choate, they look pretty convincing and then you could see if there was anyway to convert the SKS from 7.62x39 to 7.62.54R. I have not done it yet, but maybe this summer. It's about as close as we are going to get to a real Dragunov.

The only interchangeable part is the magazine and cartridge.
I have one, and personally like it better than the SVD on an accuracy basis anyway. Having said that, I'd still like to get an SVD ( lucky me -grandfathered but no rifles around).
