Dragunov

There was a SVD replacement when Armrus was still open. Unfortunately those days are over and nobody else seems to know how t get any good guns from the russians anymore.

Why the heck would you want one of those anyways? :D

They're accuracy is borderline if you're not feeding them the very best of the 54R ammo (7N series). I've had numerous SVD's and PSL's and they are accurate rifles when fed what they were designed to consume. They will feed any 54R (albeit the PSL wants light rounds) but performance will vary greatly. I've never had either jam on me or cause me any grief.

The Berkut (as Scarecrow referred to) came with mixed reviews-mediocre accuracy and a scope mount that would not stay snug.

"...Is there a good reason..." There's no good reason for anything to be prohibited. Anything that is prohibited scared the Socialist F**ks. So they declared nearly every modern military rifle or anything that looks military to be evil.

With all respect, Dragunov does not belong in precision rifles. No one was able to gather 5 shot 1 MOA groups with it consistently using any kind of ammo.
That's a main battle rifle, nothing more.

Actually, it is a "designated marksmen's" rifle, as outfitted to platoons; utilized to provide support to the standard infantry carrying AK and RPK rifles.
A few would be given SVD's to provide increased range in conflict situations...harassment of enemy machine gun posts and armor vehicles as well.
And with the proper ammo, yes...even the PSL can be a 1 MOA firearm.

They're junk! Pressed or stamped steel and wood from an old piano, and no they don't look cool either.:ninja:

With all due respect, have you fired one...or is this just based on the standard "google" read...

I've read both the good and bad, and can say with experience that with good ammo, they shoot very well. Also, I've yet one to jam, hiccup or whatever else can go terribly wrong.

BTW-you "ninja" emoticon is so kewl... :p

Terribly wrong? How about partial takedown due to a blown primer in a factory cartridge? How about separated cases with factory ammo? Oh, come on! They are spawns of Russian economy, [sarcasm] what could possibly go wrong?

So what you're saying is from your " google" readings! LOL

Actually, I speak from personal experience, having had numerous examples of both the PSL and the SVD and firing many a round through them.

I am doubtful that you have even handled one yourself, or even have 12(x).

Let me guess...you picked one when you last played Ghost Recon and you were sadly disappointed in it's performance? Or better yet...a friend of a third cousin twice removed had an associate who had heard that they were bad...

Gimme a break...speak from experience...not heresy.

No one is claiming that they are "the best thing since peanut butter"...I merely state that I have had good experience and good results with them, especially when the proper ammunition was utilized.

They are not junks.

USSR had Ak47 which is fairly short range rifle. And on the flat Russian terrain they need something reach a little further. That's it.
