In a moment of weakness, bought a Barnard S (single shot) action, and now need to dress it. My plan is to make it a switch barrel so got a Holland lug to pin. Need to assemble the other stuff so would appreciate the benefit of some experience to help me decide on:
Weaver style bases -- Which do I need for this action? (Short range shooting)
Stock - Would like a sporter or Varmint style with barrel channel to fit a Rem Varm contour...muzzle diameter of .83
Trigger - not BR ---with safety
Bottom metal...

Thanks

Ian has one piece weaver style base for the barnards I believe at a reasonable cost
Jewel for a trigger (I forget the model with safety might be HVR)
Remington ADL style trigger guard would be what I would use. Ian has those too.
Stock is a pick your flavor kind of thing.

Shimmer - I do like that stock ...didn't see it on Ian's "old" website. What did you have to do to fit the the stock ...any inletting..bedding.

Since I've never had a custom action, I know nothing about them. All my stuff to date could just be dropped in. The Barnard S is too long to fit any of my SA HS Precision stocks as the action face is longer than the standard Rem SA.... and puts the recoil lug out front by about 3/8". Will it fit a LA Rem 700 stock?

"What did you have to do to fit the the stock ...any inletting..bedding."
I ordered both the stock and action from Roberston Composites and they did all of the inletting and bedding. I assume that if you ordered a stock from them and specify what action you'll be using that they would make it so that there is minimal inletting or better yet, get them to bed it for you.

there is a bedding block

you can get from barnard, i think its on ians site. I really like the robertson f-class stock i have,

Go with a jewell trigger, i have the HVR with safety. Love it.

Should the barnard S come with the barnard trigger? I thought only the SM didnt come with one.

Ohhh the choices....

This Barnard S action appears to be for a long action (I thought they were all short actions..so I now have what I got) Life would have been so much easier with with a SA as I have several HS stocks.

the Barnard action specs http://www.barnard.co.nz/4630/14462.html compared to a Remington http://6mmbr.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=1236941. So they are a little bit different, but it is definitely not as long as a Remington long action. I'm no expert, but if you already have SA stocks, then I assume that all you would have to do is remove a little material (~0.25 inch) and bed it, but like I say I'm no expert. If you already have a stock that you like, you could just take it to a smith and get them to bed it.

Thanks for the info on the specs..yes, the S is longer and could be accomodated on my SA stocks without too much problem. The only thing, is then I couldn't use them for any of my trued rem actions. I can't complain about the purchase because I got exactly what I paid for and handled it before handing over the cash...and, in any event, I need to just get on with it and get a custom stock bedded. Of course, now I'm thinking I still need the SM action...oh crap, this is a slippery slope!

Ian...sent you an e-mail @ your office e-ddress. I plan to go with your Long Range Hunter. My heart tells me to get the "sporter", but my brain says the LRH wil suit my needs the best.
