drilling a hole in the back of a 10/22 reciver?

I am thinking of drilling a hole through the back of my 10/22 carbine's reciver to make cleaning easier with cleaning rods. Is this an okay idea? I am also planning on replacing my buffer to tougher buffer one instead of the stock steel one.....would this be affected with a small one on the back?

I 've done exactly that with mine about 12,000 rds. ago ,--zero problems . DO NOT like cleaning the bbl. fr. muzzle end if I can help it. -- Of course make the rear hole just a shade bigger for the .22 cal. rod.
 
I clean the Lilja barrel on my 10-22 with a cleaning rod from the muzzle. Yep, you heard me right, from the muzzle.... using a muzzle guide. It fits over the muzzle and has a hole in it 0.010" smaller than the bore so the rod will never touch the rifling at the muzzle. You see, there is another type of rifle where you have no choice than to clean from the muzzle and this is how it's done. Black powder rifles... loaded and cleaned from...that's right, the muzzle.
Now quit drilling holes in your dam* receiver block and make a muzzle guide.:)
 
I wouldn't worry too much about ruining your rifles accuracy...It's a 10/22, your shotgun is more accurate! :p


If it were me, I wouldn't do it. The great thing about 10/22 rifles is how easy they are to take apart. Two screws and your barrel pulls right off, it doesn't get any simpler then that.
