Over .303 Brit? That's not common but happy days shooting Prvi with that!

Try and find an Einstecklauf in .22lr (Insert for one of the 16g barrels and let's you shoot .22lr)

Scrummy

I know - thats what I thought when I picked it up and for a decent price too - but where do you find info on these things? can't find forums, nothing! and where do i look for that 22 insert - VERY INTERESTED - Thanks for the help!
Cheers, Isaac

Saw it in the auction. Interesting piece. .303 must have been a special order. All I can add is that Made in West Germany means it is post-WW2.

i would agree on the special order - but being its a common caliber in north america a good choice by whomever! glad you didn't bid me up!

That should help you get started. Some good reading there. But there are books about the Suhl Drillings and other mfgrs at the time.

Join nitroexpress forums. Post your pic and get all the info you need!
Btw .303 drillings are very uncommon nice score, I’m very jello!

Looks like a model 3000. Is the receiver steel or dural? I read quite a bit about them when I got mine. I recall the 303 was a logical chambering for guns marketed in NA because they were rimmed and tapered. They came in 30.06 too. Most NA ones I have seen have a beavertail forend. I prefer yours personally. Does it come with a scope? I’m not familiar with those type of bases.
Regarding the krieghoff 22 inserts, I found they were rare as hen’s teeth. I scored one at a gun show by a fluke.

An auction score eh? That's a cool gun, always wanted one. Care to divulge what it ended up costing you? I've seen a handful of drillings on the EE but they're usually in more German calibers, 7mms and such, the 303 is neat.

egun.de (German version of ebay for guns)
also mighg be worth looking at Africahunting.com

I have one of the Krieghoff inserts in 22mag and it can be adusted to the guns sights or scope point of aim, very high quality.Mine is for a 12ga.If you file a notch in the extractor for the insert extractor you can remove/replace the insert and keep the point of aim.I got mine from this place here in Canada.Another thing you can get is to try to find a savage fourtenner insert for 16ga this with the krieghoff insert would give you a very versatile gun.I have a Savage 2400 12/308 combo and have the krieghoff and savage fourtenner for it.

Thanks guys for all of the info and resources i am going to be getting up on some of those forums to see what else i can find out about it. To answer the question i got it for just a little of 2000 dollars, which for a Drilling seems like a damn good price - was worried about the condition but when i got it i am very impressed and it shoots fabulous. I think i am converted to 16 gauge!

If your thinking this is a Sauer 3000, I hat to tell you its not.

As for High quality Krieghoff insert Barrels your absolutely right the are extremely hard to come by but if someone wants one and is quick I have a 12 Ga. and a 16 Ga. both in .22 Win. Magnum. Will be advertise in EE shortly.

Cheers

nice rifle man! it looks like my merkel sxs shotgun, well with a 3rd barrel. you should be able to date it pretty easy, i think suhl, merkel and simson were all made in the same factory just labeled different
