Anyone try one of the drop in *PTG bottom metal? They state that only one particular model AI of mag will work and list a part #. They say due to the magazine width. Just wondering if anyone has tried an MDT poly mag? Anything else to be aware of before I jump on one of these?

Thanks

I'm not aware of the PGW bottom metal, and I don't see it listed on their website.

There's plenty of quality DBM's available though. Surgeon, Badger, KMW, Hawkins, etc. These will fit the AI AICS pattern mags, so any magazines following that pattern will fit.

Lol yes thats what I meant...PTG. I should fix my title. I am aware of the many options for bottom metal but this one says it doesn't require much if any inletting to the stock.

PTG should be able to provide some clarity on what that means, but as long as it's meant for AICS pattern magazines then MDT magazines will work.

EDIT: Googled the part number Looks like a standard five-round AICS pattern magazine to me.

It isn't compatible with an AICS magazine, it's made for the specific mag that was made for the AI AE Mk1. It's narrower than an AICS, hence the ability to drop in. What stock are you hoping to use this in? Also, ordering stuff (and then receiving it) from PTG can be an epic ####show/nightmare. I'm pretty sure I actually ordered this same DBM from PTG back in 2015 or 16 when I was just getting into precision rifles. After months of waiting and back and forth with them, I never did receive it and had to cancel with my CC. If you're just trying to retrofit a factory stock with AICS compatible DBM, I'd suggest the Stiller one. It needs very minimal inletting (ie a monkey can do it with a Dremel) and worked fine for my application back then.

^ thanks. That's more the type of post I was hoping for. I want to put it in an HS precision stock.

I've installed the magpul bottom metal in 2 HS stocks and both looked good and worked well. But they always felt a little bit like a Bubba mod.

I've owned every chassis you can think of, MDT, KRG, Cadex etc. Always liked the HS stock feel the best.

I've gotten a quote for an ATRS bottom metal. At $550 it seems a bit steep until you consider they include a mag and inlet the stock for that price. But still a little more than I'd like to Invest in an HS stock.

I might try a stiller, I think there is one on the EE. Or I may just do the magpul thing again. I just wanted to avoid that as I wanted an all metal trigger guard and I'm under the understanding that a triggertech flat blade trigger will Interfere with the trigger guard.

Or maybe I'll just save a but more for a stock that accepts M5 bottom metal.

There's always options.

If you want a true drop in look at the Atlasworxs Elite series DBM for Rem 700. Available in Long and Short action versions.

They will ship direct to Canada from OZ if you order off the website.

The Elite series is designed to fit into stocks with a Rem BDL inlet with only minor fitting. I have one in a McMillan hunter series stock and it didn't take much work to fit.

For an HS Precision stock, I believe they make a proprietary drop in DBM (that uses a proprietary mag as well). Honestly, the Stiller DBM worked well for me (was in a Boyd's Pro Varmint). It has a flange built in that basically hides any of the mediocre "inletting" you do to make it fit and it's all metal.
