i was removing a 3200 from a ruger 10/22T. its the fixed 10x40mm with the target turrets. i laid it down on the top of a 2 foot tall cardboard box, left the room for 5 seconds to get a torx key (i really have to stop leaning guns on things) and the box slowly collapsed sideways and dumped the rifle onto carpet. from the way it fell it most likely landed right on the top turret.

should i even be worried? everything looks OK, i cant take it to the range until at least the weekend though.

i realise a 2-foot drop onto carpet is a very mild impact compared to people dropping guns out of tree stands onto bedrock, but just how much abuse are these scopes engineered to take? its just the damned target turrets that worry me. ive dropped scoped guns before but the tall turrets seem to add a lot more leverage when dropped and a direct transmission of the impact to the innards of a scope.

If the "thimble" turns ok and the threads aren't damaged (eg they "feel" the same as the windage/side turret) then it is very unlikely you hurt it at all...most windage/elevation adjustments are simply pins (nylon or suitable bearing surface) pressing against the erector assembly which has opposing springs to force the assembly to track against the pins...a fall ... unless it buggers the threads of the thimble...or breaks glass/bends the tube... is unlikely to do any internal damage...might even make it track better:)

It's probably fine but you can check the function at home. Point in a safe direction out a window (careful as to who can see you) and hold the gun securely on a rest of some sort like the kitchen table. While you aim at a fixed point somewhere, have someone turn the turret up and down an even number of times and watch the reticle as they do it. You'll see movement with the "clicks" - hopefully.
