When I had mine, it worked well with shorts ect.
I just use Long Rifle target loads in mine.
I've heard that if you shoot a lot of shorts in a LR chamber it erodes the forward end of the chamber and then won't shoot LR shells well. I don't know this first hand, just what I've heard.

You just wax and fouling pluggin up the front of the chamber. Same thing happens in revolvers like when shooting 38S in a 357 chamber.
Why bother with shorts or longs unless you have inherited a stash? The 22LR match ammo is hundreds of times more accurate and recoil noise is similar.
