Anyone used the "d'solve" style cleaner that brownell's sells, or know of a canadian distributor? It looks like you mix a gallon of concentrate with 5 of water and use it to clean with. I was thinking of setting up a small parts washer for cleaning and I like the idea of not having varsol in the house. Any thoughts or suggestions in this regaurd would be appriciated.

Thanks

Doesn't answer your question, but I like the aerosol can of "Parts Cleaner" from Canadian Tire. Works great in the receiver bolt-lug/chamber area - really blasts out the grime. Tried the Brake Cleaner as well, which doesn't work as well, but evaporates which has its advantages.

I use that stuff too, but I do a lot of pistol shooting and it gets expensive. Also, it has a tendency to blow fumes up the basement stairs even if I stand outside the basement door and my wife raises holy hell when I stink the living room out.

Turns out the stuff is called d'solve, not dunk-it, but I think there's another product with that name. Cambodian tire has a nice little bench top part washer for 99$ with a pump that would be perfect for cleaning in....

My guess is D'solve cleaner is similar to Mpro-7, which is also Hoppes Elite.

They do work well on carbon and other grunge found in guns. In Canada there is a product called SilkShot which is similar and also has a corrosion inhibitor. SilkShot is made in Canada, I found it at BassPro. I think $12 for a 5 oz spray bottle and $80 per gallon.

Once in a while Princess Auto also has some nice little parts washers on sale, complete with pump etc....

Some brake cleaners are alcohol based and some are perchlorethelene. The perc cleaners do a much better job of degreasing than the alcohol based cleaners. Again, Princess Auto, tall spray can of Gunk brake cleaner, $2.99

(for me, P A is as bad as walking into a gun store)
