Hello all, this past summer I inquired about shooting my bow to sight in at a local Ducks Unlimited Canada site named Hopewell. I had emailed DUC, and they replied with
"Unfortunately we do not allow recreational shooting on any of our DUC sites across Canada" This includes sporting clays, archery, or rifle shooting.

I thought I would share this on the shotgun forum, as I regularly see people shooting clays there. Today I had a confrontation with 3 gentlemen shooting from the road onto the site... I normally don't say anything because I don't want them to shut it down for legitimate hunting purposes, but we pulled up, and he walked about 3 feet in front of our truck, fired a shot, then ejected it onto my hood...

I was pretty upset because I try everything in my power to be respectful when I shoot. So I proceeded to enlighten them off the rules, and his reply was.... "Everyone else shoots here. I've asked multiple people and they say you can."

Here say is not the law. They talked to people, I asked the owners of the property. I'm so sad at how many people don't clean up they're garbage after shooting, I've cleaned up after so many people it's sad. This is why we loose all of the public ranges and land to shoot on. A lot of people have no respect.

Sorry for my rant. I'm finished now.

Good point,

I just don't see how calling the police would change anything. If anything it would put a bad name on shooting. I did record their license plate so I will tell DUC about the incident.

I will say that they left right after we were done talking. I think DUC should put a sign up or add to the current ones stating that there is no recreational shooting allowed, like all the signs at McLean.

What does this have to do with trap and skeet shooting ? In Formal backyard shooting is a recreational past time . This is for competitive shooting .

This isn't just about DUC. Shooting from the highway is illegal and shines a bad light on all of us. Thanks for calling these guys out, but they should have been reported to RCMP. They'll likely be back at it next week. :(
