I took my family to the Ducks Unlimited dinner in Spruce Grove tonight. We had a great time! Good was awesome, great raffles ect!! People were great! Felt good to support an event like this.

I bid top dollar in my opinion in a Remington 597 and won... Still cheaper than retail prices... Apparently they mail it within 3 weeks. My Rimfire collection just keeps growing and growing!!!

I hope it meets my expectations!!!! Now to start the research on the mods I can accomplish... Haha.

I just have to laugh....everyone thinks the DU guns are so collectable...like the Model 94 commemoratives. They made literally thousands of these as "dinner guns". However, there are always at least two at auctions that believe that. See a gun that went for $700 20 years ago....should be a $500 item....go for 12-1500 at a auction.

OP said it was cheap enough, so no auction fever there. Enjoy it for what it is, but it's true the majority of special edition guns don't have much special interest years later. You supported an organization which does good work, and came out of it with a new bang stick. What's not to like?

It's like any auction that is to support a cause, you often bid more than the items worth to support them, therefore , it's not unheard of to spend $700 on a $500 gun if you are supporting an organization like D.U. Better than just cutting a cheque and getting nothing in my opinion.

Got a cool little DA Henry AR7.
I can't see that it's worth any more than any other AR7, but it's still got a little extra "Yea baby!" on it, that I like.

I bought a Marlin stainless .22 semi off a friend that was a D.U gun and I liked it. It looked a little "blingy" but it shot really well. I ended up driving over it by accident when I rested it against my front bumper and forgot it when I moved the truck to get access to the passenger side. (a tree kept me from being able to open the passenger door, so I hopped in and moved the truck 15 feet......................................... oooops. Broke it in 2 pieces and bent the barrel like a banana.

Well I have read mixed reviews on the 597... I've been doing a fair amount of reading. Majority leans towards the 597 being a pretty solid & accurate .22 out of the box. The largest complaint being the trigger and extractor. So upon reading what most do to remedy this issue, I have decided to join them!

I just ordered a new VQ hammer & extractor from Source for Sports in Bonnyville. I will try the gun with those installed before I pull the trigger on a Mcarbo trigger spring. ( excuse the pun! lol ) I have read that some people feel the hammer and spring lighten up the trigger too much for hunting. I will also polish the two guide rods and pretty much anything else on the bolt that I can to provide smooth cycling.

I am still awaiting the arrival of the gun. They told me it could be up to three weeks... not sure why that long.

Today I finally got around to installing the new hammer, extractor as well as the Mcarbo spring.... I decided to do it all!! I polished the bolt & rods. Trigger pull is WAYYYY lighter over stock.

I'm heading out into the bush tomorrow with the family & rotties... so I'll sight it in and crank 500rds or so thru it to break er in and see what I think.

I do have high hopes for the rife, so I hope it lives up to the reputation.....

I'll post back with my results......

How does it look? Nice D.U. Emblems?

No, it was just ur basic 597 with Grey synthetic stock. It shoots better than I was hoping for. I put roughly 500rds thru it 2 days ago. Not one issue what so ever. I used mainly Winchester bulk 555 pack with about 100 Velocitors.

The trigger is so smooth and light! The aftermarket parts worth every penny.

I was high and to the left out of the box. Once I got it dialed in, this was one of my groups at 25yards from a Caldwell Deadshot Field Pod. ( the group in the orange 1"circle lol. Not all the others.. )

Just wondering why you assume the aftermarket parts were worth every penny when you never fired it with stock parts in it or maybe I am wrong and you did previously fire it?????? I have several stock 597's with zero aftermarket parts and get same groups if not better at 25yds..............just sayin........

The parts he put in don't change the accuracy of the 597 but I agree with him my stock 597 is pulling 5# on the trigger and any improvement to that is well worth it! The grouping is what I'd like to see at 50 yards with the 597 but that won't happen with bulk ammo.

Boy, it's pretty obvious the gun sure doesn't like that ammo.

If you can't bring yourself to join a gun org, consider joining DU.

I've been a member for 30 years and it gives me a chance to interact with those who may not be supportive of guns and hunting but with whom I share common goals of conservation and responsible land use. Some of these people are in very high places and the more GN in the organization the more they and DU can be influenced to being a strong lobby for our firearms and for hunting.

Sometimes a fifth column works better than a battle line.

What r u talking about?? I'd love to see ur 25 yard groups with open sights?? ( as stated, ignore the other shots! Only the group in the circle was 10rds!!!!) I thought that was pretty good for bulk ammo!

Yes I NEVER fired the rifle prior to installing the aftermarket parts, as the majority of what I read claimed the rifle greatly benifits from them. They will make no huge gains in accuracy, but will in trigger pull!

I'm very impressed with this rifle the way I have it set up now...

I guess everyone assumes we all put 35x target scopes on our guns haha! Good shooting with the irons. A red dot might compliment this rifle nicely for plinking.

I don't have anything with open sights but I do have a 10/22 with an 8MOA C-More sight on it which covers a fair amount of the target. Here's my sighting in target from when I put the gun in a new stock yesterday. I just walked up to the shop to get it out of the recycle bin. Shot at 35yds using a Caldwell Rock shooting rest and a rear bag. There are 8 shots on the target with AE 40gr bulk, which this barrel really likes. I adjusted the sight on shots 1-5 and then did 6,7 and 8 to confirm POI. I'll go do a 10 shot group tomorrow if I have the time, it's too dark right now plus it would wake the warden:)
