Wow, what a day. A record number of shooters attended despite it raining most of the day. Great targets and lot's of fantastic prizes including a Winchester shotgun and a guided goose hunt for 4 hunters. Lunch was a bbq'd ribeye steak with all the trimmings. High over all (HOA) score was a 97/100 and all HOA scores and runner-ups won prizes in the men, ladies, senior and junior categories. A special shout out to all the hard working DU volunteers and the Galt Sportsmen's Club for hosting such a successful and well run event.

Glade to hear it went well even though I couldn't attend I would have, I will be helping run the Delta shoot in August. Hope it goes as well.

just a question ,, I have asked many clubs and many shooters and no one has a answer. Why is it a safety concern to shoot sporting clay with a shotgun with a strap. One guy I know brought his waterfowl gun to this shoot and was harassed about the strap ??? If this is just a club rule that fine. I have searched the net and found nothing about this. ??

If harassment occurs, it’s best just to change the subject. Ask them about their gun and then their trophies. Soon it will be dark...

Never heard of that before? See one or two each season bring their guns out to shoot trap or skeet prior to bird season opener for some practice and 9/10 times they end up removing the sling just because it's a pita getting in their way. Maybe with sporting clays the nature of the sport since you are usually in some kind of confined space station makes it a concern if it was to get hung up on the station structure? That is all I could possibly see?

Not a concern at our grounds. I can’t really see a scenario where it would be unsafe.

Sounds to me like an “image” rule. Exclusionary BS, like “no barrels less than 26” when a 24” semi or pump is actually longer than a 26” o/u.

It could be because he would be carrying it over his shoulder using the strap
Depending on how the strap is attached to a pump, that would make the action closed
Which would be the issue

Otherwise I don’t know what the problem is

18209212[/URL]]interesting ,,its the only club I have found that has that rule, if they are going to reinvent sporting clay with their weird rules they should warn us or give us a list.

Every club has its own set of rules. Most are the same but a few have a few variations. I don't see the big deal if you have to remove your sling to participate. It's not like you're out hunting with a loaded gun walking miles all day and a sling isn't giving you any advantage in shooting the clays games. I'm pretty sure most clubs have their rules posted somewhere, usually in the clubhouse, some even have a handout they give new people so they can read the rules. If you don't see any rules posted ask, pretty simple.

Over the shoulder, barrel down, might cause some to close, but I would think barrel up should keep the action open on a pump. Autoloaders, of course, could close their actions either way with the right bump, some models easier than others. Then again, there are hunting slings, tacticool.......

Slings at the trap club make me nervous. To me it implies the person holding the gun is unfamiliar with the shooting etiquette at the club.

I have since found some rules that do not allow anything attached to the gun. I guess this would include straps. No reason for this rule but it is there. First time I have seen it enforced at any club. The point is it was no done in a very polite way. Maybe explain to the person about the sling rule ,in a friendly matter instead of jumping down their throat. I mean the flyer even said bring your waterfowl gun, and that's what he did. don't want to make this into a huge deal, Galt is a amazing shooting facility. wish them all the best.
