hi all, new AR came today, yay! my question that i think i k ow the answer to but want confirmation is, can i shoot a 222 rem round out of my new rifle (223/5.56 chambered) i'm thinking it'll be fine cuz of the smaller diameter...

You need to understand that 222 is a completely different cartridge from 223. The two are not even close to compatible.
Yet both of them use a .224" bullet. The name of a cartridge has only a general reference to the bullet diameter. For example 220 Swift, 222, 223 and 225 all use the same size bullet.

^^^^This. You are going down a minimally uninformed, maximum fatal path grasshopper. This is basic safety. What do you save by doing this? Not much. On the other hand, destroy the firearm, maim, or kill yourself.
ALWAYS read what is printed ON THE BARREL. Never use anything else. That reminds me of the time when I worked at a retail store and some guy bought a shiny new Marlin 308 stainless steel barrel lever action rifle. Had our gunsmith install and boresight a scope. Well a few weeks later he comes back in furious that the gun is a POS. Says he went Moose hunting and said he and all his buddies tried to load the rifle and it would not feed. Like this guy was foaming at the mouth. I wasn't involved initially with him but the manager and 2 other associates were trying to calm him down. I came over to see what the ruckus was all about. Well this guy was a real idiot. He was feeding it WIN 308 shells....the barrel says .308 Marlin. You should have seen the look on his face. Priceless. Scary thought was that he went hunting with it before even firing a shot. So be very careful and know what your rifle is chambered for. There are a few examples of ammo similar in either name or bullet diameter but totally different. Just my 2 cents.

i saw a guy shoot a 222 in a 223 bolt gun (Accidentally got mixed in). not fun. powder burn all around his eye. Rifle jammed shut, primer was gone, case was split after having to tap it out with a cleaning rod. We figure he would have lost his eye if not for the scope he was looking through.
Just don't try it the other way around.
You have your answer many times over so I won't bother telling you not to do it. I'm just curious why you would want to considering that 222 is typically harder to find and more expensive than 223. Do you already have a 222? Seems strange to even want to do this.
