Hey guys, I seem to be playing swap the scope alot more often than I used to on my rifles. One thing I've noticed, some rings completely surround the scope tube, while others are really close, but not quite.

I mean, they surround the scope tube, but screwing them down, there is space where the rings meet (on each side). Not alot, mind you, something to the order of 1 mm or less per side....just when I think I'm doing good, I stumble on a dumb thought. Does this matter??

There should be some space, otherwise it means the rings might not be tight on the scope but instead are tight against each piece.....I try and balance the spaces evenly on each side when I tighten the rings.

If you have chronic "scopeswapitis" like me, you NEED a torque driver. Bought one this year finally, and you can't believe how uneven the torque you tend to leave on all the mounting screws is. I thought I had a pretty good feel for even torque - surprise!! And yeah, try to put an even gap all the way around - if you bottom any of the screws out, there's no way you'll get things evenly tightened and you'll get a real disliking of the Weaver mount, the claw on one side, screws on the other - good luck getting the Xhairs square to the world. You tighten, the scope rolls. You undo it and try again...and again...ad nauseum.
