Here goes me showing my ignorance again but what does the "D" stand for on an SKS D? Whats the difference between it and std. SKS, does it mean "detachable mag"?

up here , there are only two types (i could be wrong) , if it doesnt say "D" then it is a standard fixed mag sks also the prices is another indicater, the difference is quite substantial, the standard chinese is around $139-159 while the "D" is around $375-400 , the price you pay for looking cool altho there are 30 rd mag made for the standard but it will also be fixed.

Yup it might be an issue about looking cool but those 30 rd mags (pinned at 5 rds) give you the feeling that if all goes wrong then you could unpin them and go for the 30 rds. It's just like having 500 HP in a car, you normally don't use it, but you can!
This of course is just what the anti's want for ammo to ban such guns.

yes, i see the correllation between the mag and the car , if you unpin the mag or use all 500 hp on the highway, both will end you up in jail , got ya , lol.

Yes indeed. The bad boy image has always had the allure for the babes. Like that's enough to reel them in! Most have no idea what a SKS or 500 HP is. My apologies to mommabear and the other female CGN'rs. This is more or less directed at the "bimbo" type girls, and definitely not at you, cause we love you.
