seeing ive not asked one in a while...
im not to up to par on semis...

but a rule of thumb in reloading...are they normally reloaded with a few less grains of powder then say bolt or pump actions?

its something i heard and not sure myself

it doesn't matter what type of action you are shooting out of.. when reloading stick to the recipes in the loading manuals.. stay within the starting load and maximum and you cant go wrong... starting load is generally 10% less than the max load.. with some powders you have to be careful not to go below 10%...

always stick to the recipes.

Here is another way to look at this thing. I'm sure you wouldn't hesitate to fire a factory loaded round in your semi auto or pump. The factory do not differentuate in what action your rifle has.
Also, The factory loaded round will be about the same pressure as the loads marked "maximum," in the loading books.

Except some semi's (mil surp or clones) have pressure curves to run their gas systems that need to be respected. This equates to the right choices in burn rate of powder, and in the Garand/M14 line, bullet weights.

It is possible commercial design semi's have the same constraints, but I haven't seen them discussed.
