So I have a savage mark 2 mako in .22. Put a bushnell 4200 elite on it (yes overkill but whatever) with vortex medium rings.

So I'm shooting out to 100yards and have gone max out on my elevation as I'm shooting about 6 inches too low.

Scope works fine. Do I need higher rings? Or am I screwed?

Depending on the type of scope mounts your .22 has, you may be able to shim the scope bases. Scope manufacturers have a table for giving you the thickness of shim required. These should be online. The distance between your rings also comes into play as well.

You probably need a gunsmith to do this for you unless you're real handy. Not a big job for a gunsmith so shouldn't be too expensive.

I'd try the higher rings. With my Mako (.17HMR), I found that because of the raised cheekcomb I was not able to get a proper sight through the scope using medium rings.

Thanks guys. Don't have a gunny so I'll get some higher rings. Should help. Yeah I noticed the cheek riser also afffected me also.

Ok sorry to repost. But in still having issues. I swapped the rings around and haven't got higher rings yet. I've been told higher rings won't do anything to help anyway. What will help? The scope is 8-32x40 bushnell elite and it had vortex medium 1" rings which raises the scope 0.88" from the base. The highs (if I get them) take it up to 1.22" is that enough or will it even make a difference? The mako comes with built in Weaver scope mounts which may have affect too I guess...
Is there a 20MOA rail that will make up for it if I remove these and install the rail?

Any ideas would be great guys, this is stressing me out.

Thanks! :)

Are the bases correct? Higher rings won't help, in fact they will make it slightly worse. You need to change the angle of the scope to the bore, so you need to change the bases to an angled base or an angled rail like a 20min EGW rail, or install Burris Signature rings with the offset inserts.

You need an MOA rail , the EGW is nice for the price and u can order direct but shipping is kinda pricey pretty sure a few sponsors are dealer for them which might help with cost

Burris Signature Z rings with the offset insert pack are essentially the only solution as a canted rail for a 22 Rimfire rifle will be extremely difficult to find and extremely expensive if you do find one.

BTW the suggestion for taller rings jus goes to show why the Internet can be such an####ty source for information. Those who know nothing always seem compelled to reply with totally nonsensical answers.

So does anyone know of a rail tht you can fit to the savage mark 2 mako .22? If so some pics would be great and where you got it from and it's price. Thanks guys!

Difficult to find? It took about 15 seconds to find online.Extremely expensive? Is $40 extremely expensive to you?

The point being missed in this discussion is that something isn't right with this rifle or the bases. There is no way it should be shooting 6" low at maxed scope elevation. It seems to me that the problem has to be either mismatched bases or a defective rifle with the barrel improperly installed or a receiver that wasn't bored true.

Check the bases first, if they are correct and the rifle is new then take it back.

I'm trying to not doubt you here. But that seems VERY unlikely. I think it's just the bases. The scope is not designed for a rimfire at the magnification I have it at I don't think. I think a rail would help. Thanks for the advice guys. I'll try the EGW out and see if it helps. If not then I will agree with your comment sir.

I seen the same thing with a bushnell 4200 on an old BRNO a couple of weeks ago at a hundred yards and they were going to try and shim it or buy a rail.
