I have a full 1/2 pound can of Du-Pont SR 4756 powder. I used this powder a few years back for reloading 20 gauge shells. I understand it was popular for certain handgun loads as well.
Is this a powder that could be used in a snider enfield , along with Goex , to make a duplex load?
Anybody have any experience with this powder ?

I shoot a duplex load developed by a friend for my .44-40 rifles. I have not tried it in my Pietta SAA pistol yet.
The load is 3 grains of 4227 and 31.5 grains of GOEX FFFg.
The load is set up so there is compression to prevent the powders mixing and with the smokeless powder being loaded first..
10% of 34 grains of FFFg is 3.4 grains. I cut it back for easier measurement.
The 34 grains of GOEX FFFg loading is from Mike Venturino book, “Shooting Lever Action Rifles of the Old West”.
Internet research tended to suggest 10% smokeless substitution.
The DCRA used to allow duplex loads for their black powder matches and the smokeless percentage was much higher.

"...Theory was this made the gun shoot cleaner..." No amount of smokeless powder is going to make BP shoot cleaner.

The duplex load of 3.0 grains of 4227 and 31.5 grains of FFFg does make it shoot cleaner.

Straight black powder usually leaves the boar black and at times you cannot see the rifling.

The duplex load leaves a clean bright bore with a few powder specs in my .44-40 Uberti Henry with a 24 inch barrel.

SR4759 was my go-to for duplex loads too, but in the 45-70. I've not loaded any BP in years, though.

I might dust off the 50-70 dies this winter and load some up for my old rolling block. Smokeless loads in that are uninspiring to say the least.

Like I said guys, I'm only interested in knowing if the Du-Pont SR 4756 powder could be used, because that is what I have here.
I guess I best not use it then , as no one seems to have past experience with this particular powder in a duplex load.
Better safe than sorry.
Maybe I will see if the local gun shop will swap me for some goex.
Thanks all for the responces.
