I need a gun for my backcountry trips. I'm considering a 590A1 6 shot. Is the is marinecote offered by Mossberg more durable and easier to maintain the the parkarized finish? I hope to do as little field maintenance as possible. I've only owned blue'd rifles up to now.

The maricote is a nickel finish and used in marine enviroments and salt water. Very durable and like any firearm you do need to keep it clean. I have it on my hatsen and it's great no fuss, no muss.
590a1 only comes blued or tactacal coat as far as I have seen. I suggest a J.I.C. mossberg, Remington 870 with pistol grips. Hatsen comes with both stock and pistol grip.

Both may scratch if they rub against metal. Parkerizing will give you a dark non-glare finish while electroless nickle is bright. Parkerizing has a less-smooth surface that will hold the required rust-protecting oil or grease while the more-smooth surface electroless nickle will protect from rust by itself.

Either will do. Smooth vs. less-smooth. Shiny vs. dark matte. Your choice.
