Duty on Euro scopes?

I'm aware of that.

Sometimes items ordered from the US slip through. Often lately.

I'm looking at at a used Swarovski scope. Just wondering what kind of extra charges I possibly might face.

IIRC, Telescopes/Binoculars, etc are duty free, BUT Rifle scopes/optics have duty on them.

Go figure.........:rolleyes:

This info came from one of my buddies who is in the Customs business.I was told this a few years back so things may have changed.

I ordered a new scope from Premier Reticles and was charged $60.00 some odd dollars duty back in late 1990s..........

A quick side note here, do business' have to pay duty as well, or is there an exemption?

HS# 9013.10.00.00: Telescopicsights for fitting to arms.
5% duty rate, MFN tariff treatment (non-NAFTA)

So, just to simplify, you buy a scope from Europe for CA$100
VFD = $100.00
5% Duty = $ 5.00
--------------
DPV = $105.00
8% PST(Ont)= $8.40
6% GST = $6.30
---------------
Total payable to the Fed's in Ontario: $19.70

This is outside of any freight or postage handling fee. If you are a business, you can avoid PST in most instances otherwise, you are S.O.L.
