Anyone have experience with the kits you can buy state side to build your own muzzleloader percussion rifle/single shot pistol.

They look fun but not sure if you can import them since they are just a bunch of parts and not a weapon until assembled.

I bought one of those kits in the early 80s.....CVA Hawken rifle and Plains pistol.

The kit was cheap...had fun building them and shooting them.....shot several deer with the Hawken over the years

I was a soldier then...bought the kit thru the Canex on base..built the guns in barracks waiting for course assignment. Linseed oiled the stocks and browned the barrels with vinegar/mustard sauce.

Ive wanted to do one of the kits. I didnt think it would make it to me. Ive kept an eye out for them on this side of the border. Does anyone know for sure?

Contact Track Of The Wolf, they will tell you. I took a couple of black powder percussion rifles down there about 3 years ago with no problem. I'm pretty sure you can have black powder firearms still sent this way. I just got some parts from TOTW. There could be individual retailers though who won't ship to Canada for whatever reasons.

I do business with Track of the Wolf all the time. They're very good at shipping to Canada. Keep in mind that they do not sell a click together and finish easy kit. but more advanced parts sets that need some work to finish, although the NW trade gun is fairly easy. You will still need to do some soldering, wood removal, drilling and tapping holes, filing.
Jim Kibler on the other hand offers the finest blackpowder kits on the market. They require much less work, as he does a lot with CNC machining. His kits use the highest quality parts, and are 100% period correct, unlike CVA, Traditions etc.
I have built one myself, and the quality and fit is incredible.
Here is his site. He ships to Canada.

There's a place in the east coast, NS I think that sells black powder stuff like that. Dont recall the name though. If you google canadian black powder guns it might come up.

You can get the Traditions Kentucky rifle kit from Cabela's Canadian site

I have no experience but militaryheritage.com ships out of Ottawa. Looks like they have supplied a few movies.

Does anyone know why Military Heritage will no longer sell undrilled Flintlock pistols within Canada? Are those now required to be registered as restricted?
