Ear protection while hunting??

Pardon??

Best plan is to either step off the porch or take the time to sight that gun in so you don't need to shoot so much to get the job done.

I have felt the same way on occasion blasting the 338wm or similar big cannon while in the bush where the sound reflects. I quickly got over the ear pain when moose falls over.

Part of hunting with guns. I have yet to try bow hunting but watching the vids. it looks just awesome.

Ruger No.1 is single shot, boom then quiet except for deer/moose hitting the ground.

For big game hunting, no. I'll only ever fire a shot or two at a time, and I refuse to hunt with anyone who uses a braked magnum.

Gophers with anything bigger than a .22, yup.
Ducks, geese, or coyotes from a fixed position, yup.

After suffering eardrum damage and hearing loss from too much unprotected shooting, working in heavy industry without earmuffs and playing in rock bands without ear protection, I now carry foam earplugs in nearly every pocket and slip 'em into my ears as soon as I spot a game animal before I even load my rifle.

It's cost me a couple of deer who fled at the sight of my hands moving, but I can't afford to lose anymore hearing. It only takes a few seconds. I've got tinnitus like crazy too.

I suffer from some hearing loss, but moreso am affected by tinnitus

I know how you feel, I have the same problem. Sitting in a tree stand in the early morning when the woods are dead quiet is enogh to drive me mad sometimes due to the constant ringing in my ears. To help, I chew a lot of gum or eat a ton of snacks while sitting in my stand so I hear the crunching of food instead of ringing.
