Welllll I know the owner of State Arms quite well. Have had a couple of his guns and have patterned the 1s we build off of his action.
Are they better than a Steyr? The actions are totally different. I would wager that in a catastrophic failure the State would stand up better as the very short action with a shell holder type bolt is uber strong, but slow to reload.
The Steyr is a decent rifle but I find the stocks being multi piece not to be as stable and the stock design of the Steyr is hard for some to get in behind the scope well. The Competitor does not have this problem. We built several that we called the Techno 50 which is patterned after the Competitor.
I found that with this style of action lug lube is critical, where the Steyr is more forgiving.
From my experience the State will be more the accurate rifle, but now that I have a Nemesis will likely be selling my personal State clones. Same great accuracy but more user friendly
