I'm really interested in getting opinions from Ed Brown owners before I make the jump.

I'm interested in any and all thoughts and opinions on any of the EB models. How do you think they rate compared to the other semi-customs?

Most importantly would you buy one again?

Hey there, I think mine is outstanding, a Classic Custom with a few options, it is a pleasure to shoot and a pleasure to clean because it is as beautiful inside as it is outside. I have handled several other semi-custom 1911's (wilson combat-nighthawk) and all are very nice, I just liked the traditional treatment of the Ed Brown over the rest. It shoots much better than I can-1" ragged hole at 10 yards! Check them all out if you can, I think you may find that the Ed brown is the best value!

Good luck!
P.S. I had great luck with Wanstalls, great people to deal with and yes I would buy another one, several if I could afford it!

Actually the Classic Custom was the model I was considering. I understand I can order through Wanstalls and the wait time is only about 8 months. What options did you get on yours?

I ordered all stainless with the custom rib, recessed slide stop and flush barrel crown. I just printed off the Ed Brown order form from their website and gave that to Wanstalls and it took a little over 8 months. With those options you will be looking at close to $5000 as I notice their cost has gone up a bit, mine was $4400.00

Have fun choosing your options!

I bought a set of their adjustable rear sights and am very disappointed in the quality. The windage adjustment has stripped and when I called them to inquire about disassembling them to repair it or sending the sights in for repair I was told to buy new ones. Not something a quality company should say. I know they are only $125 sights but I would have expected them to at least want to see them to find out what went wrong.

I bought a Special Forces with Rail for my 1911 in 2011, and it has become, by far, my favourite handgun. I have shot it beside pretty much everything but a Wilson (Various production pieces, Valtro 1998A1, Kimber Custom Shop, Dan Wesson Valor, Nighthawk GRP) and it stands up quite well. I significantly prefer it to everything but the GRP, and it was a wash between the two of them.

My 'utilitarian' Ed Brown cost me ~$2,400 new from 1911bdw, but their website is down, so they may be gone.

thanks for the reply and info. I've never fired an Ed Brown so I'm taking my time researching them.

I've seen a few mentions of 1911bdw but have never found the website or an other info about them. Any more you can tell me about them?

I'm in the same boat, looking to finally pull the trigger & get an Ed Brown. Just have to decide if its gonna be a full size classic custom or a cobra carry.
