Hi guys,

Here for identification something that looks like a Sterling submachine gun. The submachine gun is in really poor condition. If it's a Sterling gun, it must be one the very first model. If not, I have no idea of what it can be.

I can't show the bolt because the handle is ceased in place. With the pictures, you'll see no markings except the serial number I guess, which is 157. Later, I realized the gun has been neutralized, with the handle welded in place and the barrel filled with lead.

So, what do you think it is? Star Wars Stormtrooper E11's ancestor?!

I honestly have no clue of where this thing comes from. I am also a partisan of the homemade weapon.

It seems to use some starndard parts and the rest is roughly made, welded together to be able to just shoot the bullets. Not sure I would be willing to try it. Anyway, it is fully deactivated.

Let's play... after the bastard child of a Sten and Sterling, another bastard child

Sorry for that... didn't post the thread at the righ place... I just posted in its own thread now.

Sten stock attachment point with home brew stock
Sterling smg Barrel
Sten Mk3 mag well
Sten or sterling bolt
Front section of a sterling
Rear section of a sten

Looks like something the IRA used to cobble together...

Norinco copy of the L2 "sterling" SMG. No seriously now, I cannot shake the idea that this is a Ex-IRA copy of a L2 SMG cobbled together during "the troubles".

Yes I did... we have two kind of mag and both fit. One for the Sten, one for the Sterling. If I can find some time, I'll add pictures with mages on Thursday.

Reply from Peter Laidler:

Hi Tom. It is a home made thing from a ....., well I can't even really identify if it is a Sterling barrel. But the IRA used to try to make things like this. Clearly uses Sten gun magazines. I can tell you that just from the sheer dire quality of the workmanship that it didn't come from within 1,000 miles of Sterling!

Regards, Peter

The IRA had no trouble getting new kit without having to cobble stuff together.
If there are no stampings on it, it's possibly a homemade SMG.
