Hi All -

does anyone know of any 3-gun competitions going on in the Edmonton Area (or anywhere in Alberta, for that matter) this year?

Looking on the Spruce Grove website, I don't see any 3-gun bookings on their calendar of events... and I thought SG was the place to be for 3-gun in my area.

Help a n00b like myself wrap my head around Alberta 3-gun, if you'd be so kind! :)

-M

Thanks for the info.

Anyone planning on going to any events in AB this year, and can help a guy with dates?

OR...

Can any of the experienced (or 'almost' experienced?) 3-gunners share any tips/tricks regarding rules or gear?

-M

PM Big Tex or Sosa. They can help you out with the WRAS info.

We run a couple of 3 gun matches in Peace River every year, also.

So it's exclusively WRAS who puts on these competitions?

I've seen pics from the Peace River 3-gun, and it looks fun (even though you will all whip my ass!) but I'd like to give it a go closer to home before driving 5-6h each way just to find out I have the wrong gear or utterly suck at it.

Does WRAS require a qualification like Black Badge?

AFAIK it's only WRAS who does it at Spruce Grove. I could be wrong.

We're privateers at PR, not affiliated with WRAS or any other body. There's always a pile of extra gear and guns so you'll never have the wrong gear.

As far as "utterly suck at it", well, you have to start somewhere.:) We've had shooters of all calibres and experience, from high-speed to never-used-a-holster high-drag newbies. Everyone has a great, safe time.

That's what I'm after - I don't care if I take a minute to finish the stage (though I've never been accused of being slow in other informal run-n-guns we've had with friends in the past) as long as I'm 100% safe and so is everyone else.

I know it's seriously noob-ish, but are there any really good sites I can check out for more info on rules/gear/tips? I've seen some pretty 'scattered' info here and there, but is there some kind of "3 gun bible" I should read? :)

im in the same boat as you doc but im 50 minutes from pr and plan on buying a bunch of gear n guns and head out to peace river next time they have a match

Why don't you come out and see what works for other folks before you invest a bunch of money? We've always got extra guns and gear for new shooters.

Dates son. That is if you don't mind an Open gunned Buck Rogers space case showing up lol.

Keep the bible out of it!

Doc,

There is no 3 gun bible or rule book. Most of the 3 gunning rules are basic defensive rules and a lot can be found on 3 gun websites south of the border. Most 3 gun events up here rob the important rules from our friends of the south but the divisions aren't applied as our gun laws vary. We print of a set of rules for our matches and give them out at the match prior to starting.

Come on out and have a good time.

Greg

Each time I've attended the WRAS events, they've always been fun, friendly, and safe minded. Yea, there is some tongue in cheek razzing and humor, but nothing intentionally hurtful. Just good times and laughs with guns :)

Here is some of the stages I captured on camera:

As for gear, well, you can wear anything... One event I was rockin' some multicam gear, the next, I was wearing paintball pants (I am sure I was the focus of some jokes too :))

Wear what you dare!.

I hear rumblings of other orgs getting started up as well, but have yet to see anything materialize. I for sure would welcome it. I cannot go back to shooting static targets anymore !

I can help you with that. I am a member of a combat trigun league out of CHAS in Genesee range 60 minutes west of edmonton off hwy 16. We are similar but different to the spruce grove 3 gun league. Firstly, we wear armor and loadbearing vests. Secondly, we dont use or allow fancy race or ipsc guns, only your basic combat type pistol. If your 1911 is tricked out, thats fine, but no scopes or down-loaded ammo allowed on your handgun. Also, any centrefire caliber rifle or smg will do. If you can blast away and reload on the move with a levergun, then use it. Any questions, contact Greg Tritheart on the CHAS league. We are a new league, so are still getting set up with designing courses, kill houses etc, and have only had 2 courses of fire so far, but turnout has been good.

Glad you chimed in!

I heard several people talking about your club and I have full intentions of attending some (been in touch with Greg)

I think it's great there are more and more of these clubs starting up but offering something different.

Can't wait for the next season!.

Dates son. That is if you don't mind an Open gunned Buck Rogers space case showing up lol.

We'll get the dates posted as soon as we figure them out D_.

No problems with space cases (you'll fit right in) but the PR3G rules don't allow race holsters, and compensators and RDS on pistols. No equipment limitations on rifles or shotguns as long as they remain in the same configuration from start to finish.

We don't get enough shooters to have lots of different classes. We split it by rifle caliber; full-power goes into Heavy, intermediate into Light. We have considered an optics/no optic split of the two classes but we haven't run that way yet.

Great vid Cyanide Ride, first time i,ve seen it. We were pretty lucky with the weather that day. had a blast, going to try to attend a few more times this season
For anybody just curious...just go--just about everybody has a complete spare set of gear with them, and are more than generous enough to let you try it out.
Look forward to seeing the 2011 schedule.
It might be helpful if at one of the shoots a "rule book" (loose guidline) was put together for newbies. when everybody is there to have a bit of input on what works and does'nt. as this will catch on huge up here and we may as well be ready.

Great stuff, guys - thanks for all the replies so far.

This is what I wanted to see - all the 3-gunners coming out of the woodwork to let us know what's up and where! :)

Hey all,

Been a while since I threw out anything to the local 3 Gun world.... First off Cyanide Ride, awesome vid as usual.

Wild Rose Action Shooters is your answer for the 3 Gun/ Multi Gun shooting action you want, we shoot rifle, pistol, shotgun, and this year long gun. Our club shoots at Spruce Grove Gun Club, we normally shoot 9 stages on a Saturday and 7 on a typical Sunday.

We are trying to get our first match started up in Apr and run through to Nov, yep that’s 8 months of shooting. We will be having 2 maybe 3 Steel Challenge matches and the rest will be 3 Gun and maybe a 4 gun match (still working that one out).

We (WRAS) have been trying to get the schedule up and running. Right now we are working with the SGGC and the CFO on some issues ref targets, but we are sure that the outcome will be good for all concerned.

This year will be adopting a rule set, it will be combination of the USPSA Multi-Gun rules set (http://www.uspsa.org/rules/2011_Multigun_Rules%2012_15_2010.pdf)
and the International Multi-Gun Association (http://www.smm3gun.com/Rules/2011/IMA-MM3G%20Rules%20RB%20Rev7%2025-November-2010.pdf)

If you have any questions or want to be put on the distribution list fo the upcoming events, please PM me.
