Hi everyone:

On January 25th and 26th Edmonton Nordic Ski Club is hosting a Biathlon race in Edmonton, Alberta. Biathlon is the sport that combines cross country skiing with rifle marksmanship. Not sure what it looks like? Take a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppOAqvuqhBc

This is great chance to experience Biathlon firsthand. We need 70-80 volunteers to make the race happen. We need people to

o help inspect rifles (trigger pull weight)
o pull targets on the firing line
o record hits/misses at the firing line
o help in the penalty lap area

Biathletes generally use two types of rifles:

(1) Anschutz (German) .22 LR Biathlon rifle with Fortner action, approximately $4,000 CAD race ready

(2) Izhmash (Russian) .22 LR Biathlon rifle, approximately $2,000 CAD race ready

Interested? Check out the event poster and contact our volunteer coordinator. You can find the poster at http://edmontonnordic.ca/documents/Call%20for%20Volunteers2014.pdf

Thanks!

(This is my first posting ever. Sorry if I've placed it in the wrong spot.)

Bumpity bump? Anyone else interested in this?

Is it going to be me and Ray sharing body heat to stay warm? Forecast says high of 4, low of -5, so we probably won't need Tauntaun guts.

Well that was pretty interesting. I was a range recorder on the first day, and on the second day I was one of the guys putting the tracking bands on people's legs at the starting line. Apparently it's "creepy" that I happen to carry kneepads around in my backpack. ;) You never know when you're going to have to put put trackers on the spandex posse. I kind of forgot I had them in there, but they came in handy for kneeling on the ice.

I've never seen so much spandex in one place. A little less than 131 contestants on the second day, not sure how many on the first.
