Apologies if this is the wrong forum, or if it's already been discussed.

I'm new to Edmonton, but as a starving graduate student, I'd rather not drop ~$150 or so to join a gun club, or $25 a day a drop-in range, just to shoot. Especially as I won't be out every weekend. I'm wondering if there are any places around where people can just go to plink, like a random farmer's field or something? I just have a .22, I'm not into killing things, and (as mentioned above) as a student I don't have enough time to seriously train for target competitions, so I was just curious if there was someone out there with a field they're not using or somesuch? If not, I guess I may have to bite the bullet (ha, ha...) and join one of the clubs. I find myself in the Villeneuve/St. Albert area quite regularly, if it helps.

Thanks people!

Get a job working PT at one of the ranges in town (Phoenix, Wild West etc), then you can shoot for free and fund your gun habit.

you could ask a farm for permission to hunt rabbit than just kinda set up a target to shoot at.
The thing i don't like about phoenix is its only 50yards. with a 22.cal sure thats not bad but .... well its only 50yards.

CHAS (Canadian Historical Arms Society) is dirt cheap. You have to drive a bit to get out there, but it's as cheap as you'll get. I think it's around $70/yr including 5 tickets to the gun show.
