Airgun Noob question--Airguns require no PAL if the velocity is below 500 fps--Correct? Do the ones that require a PAL need to be registered and stored like a firearm?

Absolutely. The pistols that shoot over 500fps are considered restricted weapons as well.:(

You are now edumacated.

I am edumacated indeed! Thanks guys--I've only ever dealt with my firearms, and never even really thought about airguns at all......

Another thought--If you own a 1000 fps airgun, and register & store it correcly, do you also have to store the pellets the same as firearm ammo ie live cartridges??

^^ Nope because that whould mean anyone with a >500fps airgun whould have to store them the same too, that whould be ridiculous they are just pieces of lead.

I guess I wont make any posts about a potato cannon that fires 700fps..
oops :)

I hope that was theoretically your theoretical chrony. Hate to see what a chrony hit by a high speed theoretical potato would look like if you were off a little  I guess it would be a hashbrown maker at that point.

If it truly were a cannon however, it'd be a non-gun anyway. One of the more interesting aspects of the Blackpowder and Antique section of the board. Nothing like a video of a tennis ball getting launched a kilometer or so, by an unregistered 400 pound raquet. If it were firing little bits of potatoes 700fps through a small barrel, though, the black helicopters would be coming to get you.
