Advertise as a restricted ww2 carbine, but it looks like it has a longer barrel installed or the front sight was set far back on the original barrel.
Would that ever be done by an manufacturer/armourer?
I don't want to discredit the seller, I just love the m1 carbines and seeing one that looks different really peaks my interest as to what is going on.

Measure the barrel to see if its longer than 18 inches. It appears that a barrel extension has been added.

With an extension its still restricted.
Lots of M1s had an extension added to make them non restricted then the laws changed.
The addition wasn't legal anymore making the M1s restricted again, unless there is a an 18 1/2" or 19" barrel installed.
Then they are considered non restricted.
There are lots of M1s out there that never got re-registered because the owners didn't know or ignored the change in the law.

id guess that barrel is over 18 inches. look how long the bayonet handle would have to be to work and latch in. most likely an aftermarket barrel 20"

well its not that the laws changed its that the interpretation of what constitutes barrel length changed.

someone got upset that so many M1 Carbines were going from restricted to non-restricted with such an easy modification.

they first said that the barrel had to be rifled for the entire length so some smart gunsmith just switched to using short chunks of 303 Lee Enfield barrels for the extension.

they put a stop to that as well, continuously rifled I believe was the term they decided to use.

I bought one with an ugly extension that was re registered as a restricted. I took off the extension only to find the crown was buggered so it went off to be re barreled with a 18 1/2" barrel and reclassified as non restricted.

When it was legal to do so we de-registered M1 Carbines by silver soldering on an extension. We removed the front sight and turned down the barrel so there was a step in the barrel under the front sight ,and the faint ring of solder was hidden when the front sight was reinstalled. The extension was the same external diameter as the barrel, was smooth bore and approx .40 cal. They looked very good. Under today's interpretation of the law these would be unregistered restricted firearms, but they would be very differcult to detect. You would need to compair the distance from the muzzle crown to the front of the front sight housing to tell. I am sure that there are lots out there that owners are unaware of.
