So I purchased a Rifle on the EE not too long ago.

It needed some TLC.

But under that coat of black paint and dirt was something of interest ....

So the work began to restore it ....

Nice work on the restoration! Good eye catching that on the EE, the much coveted 41 Longbranch :)

This one was definitely worth restoring and judging by the final pictures I think it came out very well. There's certainly not many original examples left out there!

-Steve

Did it come to you as a sporter? I don't remember it on the ee

It did not last long on the EE :)

Here are the details:

- arrived with a mix of Savage and British wood
- all internal parts looked good
- correct full length matching barrel
- Bands, Sight Protector and Safety not Correct

What I did to restore it:

- Spent hours removing black paint and cleaning a very very dirty rifle
- Replaced Wood with Long Branch wood
- Replaced Sight Protector, Bands and Safety with era correct LB parts

and where on earth did you find that early sight protector?

Absolute pure luck to be honest! Was offered one the day after I mentioned I had picked up an early Long Branch.

These are pretty much unobtainium. But completes the 41 to 45 family picture ...

Good score! "Lady Slipper" safety is from a later rifle. Someone paid over $600. for one of those early forsight protectors recently.
