Looking for some feedback,

I have a co-worker with a S&W 4046, DAO trigger, .40S&W - stainless steel. He is looking to flip it, and buy an M&P. The gun is 12.6 and registered as such.

What have these things been going for in the EE?

Thanks,
Jeff

very nice gun, good stainless platform, personally I'm not happy with DAO trigger.
I had one S&W 3906 with restricted bbl and was a very accurate and reliable shooter.
IMHO price of these 12(6) DAO s/s models goes on the 400-500 range
(also you can buy the DA/SA trigger kit from US)

Thanks for the feedback.

I have seen 5946's go for 800+ before. I wasn't sure if there was some particular desirability of these guns that made them go for more money.

Nice gun but...

The S&W 4046 is a nice gun but heavy. Since it has a 4 or less inch barrel it is a 12[6] handgun. That means only other 12[6] PAL holders can buy and possess it. The more desirable gun in the same format is/was the 4006, also classed as a prohib, but it had all the best features of the 4000 series.
BarSto barrels in 29 Palms California used to make replacement restricted barrel for these prohibs but they have stopped due to the poor and small amounts of sales. It would be difficult to find a barrel for your 4046 that would probably cost more than the gun is now worth.
The federal Conservative government will end the long gun registry with Bill C-19 in the very near future. However, I am unsure if they will change the status of 12[6] prohibited handguns. It could happen. Will it? Unknown. So, very nice and desirable prohibs are generally worth C$350.00-450.00. Not so nice prohibs are worth, if you can sell them, C$50.00-100.00. A nice S&W 4046 prohib is worth C$225.00-250.00.
